Medicinal Evaluation of different flowers from Asteraceae Family

Abstract

Plant species in Asteraceae and Lamiaceae family are being used to cured various diseases. Satureja one of the species under Asteraceae family species exhibits analgesic, antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, antiproliferative, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilatory activities. The
goal is to assess the antioxidant, antimicrobial activity of selected flowers of Asteraceae family. The investigation was done using three flowers of Asteraceae family i.e., Daisy, Sunflower and Marigold. The antimicrobial test was performed against E. coli (DH5) strain. Antioxidant activity was compared using total phenolic content and total flavonoid content. The antioxidant activity is also known to have cancer prevention as well. The result showed that Daisy flower exhibit maximum phenolic and flavonoid content while sunflower exhibit highest antimicrobial activity. There is a possibility that these floral extracts can be further utilized for further estimation.
