Abstract

Plastic offers several advantages, including a low cost of production. Its impact on the terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem, our health, and even the future of our planet is alarming. This century’s primary pollutant is everywhere in macroscopic form (bottles, plastic wrappers, etc.) after its natural degradation becomes microscopic and remains dangerous. His complete elimination will take several hundred years. Consequently, the international community (states, environmental organizations, scientists, etc.) is mobilized to find a problem. Still waiting to find another substitute, the development of bio plastics and recycling are the most suitable solutions. Algeria, like all countries, has suffered from plastic pollution following the heavy consumption of this material, because it is among the major importers in Africa. Moreover, the drought that has affected the region for years has prompted the state to limit this scourge. As a result, this review attempted to present plastic with these various types, the impact of its use on aquatic ecosystems and different ways of eliminating plastic pollution.
