Effect of Sulphur and Farm Yard Manure on physical and chemical properties of Sunflower grown soil and nutrient uptake by crop
Abstract
The field experiment was conducted during Rabi season at the Research Farmof Department of Soil Science, Allahabad School of Agriculture, Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology Sciences, Deemedto- be-University, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh which is located between 25° 24’ 08.71†N latitude and 81° 50’ 16.95" E longitude, along the Yamuna River and 98 meter above the mean sea level. The soil of the experimental field is alluvial in nature. The treatments were allocated in 4 x 4 factorial randomized block design with three replications, four levels of FarmYardManure (FYM) and Sulphur (T0= S0 kg ha–1 FYM0 t ha–1), (T1= S0 FYM6 t ha–1), (T2 = S0 FYM8 t ha–1) , (T3 = S0 FYM10 t ha–1), (T4 = S35 kg ha–1 FYM0 t ha–1), (T5 = S35 kg ha–1 FYM6 t ha–1), (T6 = S35 kg ha–1 FYM8 t ha–1), (T7 = S35 kg ha–1 FYM10 t ha–1), (T8 = S45 kg ha–1 FYM0 t ha–1), (T9 = S45 kg ha–1 FYM6 t ha–1), (T10 = S45 kg ha–1 FYM8 t ha–1), (T11 = S45 kg ha–1 FYM10 t ha–1), (T12 = S55 kg ha–1 FYM0 t ha–1), (T13 = S55 kg ha–1 FYM6 t ha–1), (T14 = S55 kg ha–1 FYM8 t ha–1) and (T15 = S55 kg ha–1 FYM10 t ha–1). Each plot size was of 3 m2 (2 x 1.5). The crop was applied recommended dose of fertilizers i.e. N, P and K @ 70, 60 and 40 kg ha–1. The of Bulk density (Db) (g cm–3), Particle density (Dp) (g cm–3), percent pore space (PPS) and percent water holding capacity (PWHC) of soil, pH and EC at 25° C (d Sm–1), percent organic carbon, available Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium and Sulphur (kg ha–1) of soil was found significant at different levels of Sulphur and FYM. The N, P, K and S uptake (kg ha–1) by sunflower plant and grain was also found significant at different levels of Sulphur and FYM. The interaction effects of sulphur and FYM on Db, Dp, PPS and PWHC of soil, pH and EC at 25°C (d Sm–1) of soil, % OC, available N, P, K and S (kg ha–1) of soil were recorded significant. The interaction effect of sulphur and FYM on N, P, K and S uptake (kg ha–1) by sunflower plant and grain was also found significant. It was also observed that Dp and pH of soil was gradually decreased with an increase dose of Sulphur and FYM. The Dp, PPS and PWHC, EC, % OC, available N, P, K and S (kg ha–1) of soil were gradually increased with an increase in dose of sulphur and FYM. The N, P, K and S uptake (kg ha–1) by sunflower plant and grain were also increased gradually with an increase in dose of Sulphur and FYM.
