Abstract

The Water Quality of the Ganges is deteriorating rapidly due to exponential population, increasing industries and their effluents etc. Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System (GIS) techniques have provided the apt-solution for the water quality monitoring of a large area in a rapid way. This study has emphasized in developing a model for the prediction of Oxidation Reduction Potential of the River Ganga along the city of Varanasi, divided into 3 zones in accordance with the distance from the bank. The study has also found the relationship of the Redox Potential with various other Water Quality Parameters like the pH, Temperature etc. and uncovered various trends in the variation of the parameters. These trends might play a dominant role in the upcoming study of water pollution monitoring and model development.
